About
Lyocell is a man-made fiber and is mostly known better by its brand name Tencel®. It is a manufactured fiber composed of regenerated cellulose which derives from wood pulp. Lyocell has a similar hand feeling and drape as viscose, and is noted for its durability and strength in addition to its eco-friendly manufacturing techniques.
Characteristics
Lyocell possess low shrinkage characteristics, as well as good moisture absorbency and wrinkle resistant qualities. It is stronger than other cellulosic fibers, has subtle luster and takes up dye very well which results in rich colored garments.
Good to know
The manufacturing process is more expensive than cotton or viscose, hence somewhat higher priced garments. Since the fabric is very durable it is also used for items like conveyor belts and special bandages in the medical field. The usage of Lyocell is extremely versatile as it can be used to resemble various qualities such as denim, suede, wool or silk blends.
Blends
Lyocell can be blended with everything from cotton or flax as well as wool or fine hair fibers because of its strength, uniformity, and absorbency.
Aftercare
Lyocell garments are generally very easy to care for. Wash on 40-60°, do not bleach, medium heat iron, can be dry cleaned, can be tumble dried on low heat.
